The spider

By September 17, 2020 No Comments

I’ve been spending time this summer in the Berkshires. The other night, I saw a spider perched in its web, on the outside (thankfully) of the porch glass slider door. It wasn’t tiny and to be honest, it creeped me out, but I couldn’t stop watching.

When a mosquito or moth hit the web, the spider sprang into action and “incapacitated” its prey. It was fascinating to watch the patient planning in action.

The next morning, the web was gone, only to reappear in the same spot the next evening. It attracted no takers and the next morning the web and spider were gone.

The following night, the spider appeared in a new location on the glass, weaving its intricate design. That night, the web was filled with a multitude of captured insects.

In life, we learn from our successes, but we learn more from our failures. In Chapter X, we need to figure out what works for us and what doesn’t.

Like the spider, we need to adapt, learn and change with the circumstances. Without that attitude, the chances of positive outcomes are dim.

Life after work is a time to thrive, not wallow in yesterday.

Cheers,

Michael
