As you move closer to your next chapter, do you have a clear picture of what that will look like? Is it filled with purpose, excitement, meaning and mastery? If you’re like me, the answer is murky, filled with variables and question marks and a lot of what ifs.
What I’ve learned is that heading into this chapter is not unlike when I began my career as an accountant. And then when I started in the financial services industry and again when I started Financial Life Focus back in 2001. Each new beginning was a combination of fear, expectation, hope and a ton of variables and unknowns.
I guess I could say the same when I got married and again when our first child was born. Each life stage carries with it a mixed bag of choices, possibilities and challenges.
Think back to your life and the various transitions you’ve experienced and see if what I am saying is true for you.
Life is the proverbial mixed bag of highs and lows and lots of time in between. Every stage presents possibilities and potential. The question is how did you navigate your past life stages—what did you learn and are any of those lessons applicable to your Chapter X?
Try identifying each major transition or stage and what choices, possibilities, lessons, challenges and outcomes you experienced. Create an outline that highlights each stage and pull from it some important ideas in mapping out your next stage.
I’d love to hear your experiences and thoughts.
