What’s Thursday?

By May 31, 2025 No Comments

I recently spoke with a friend who is still working about getting together for lunch. While he was talking about Thursday, I was thinking Friday or maybe even Saturday. When I finally realized we were talking about different days, I unashamedly told him, “Hey, I’m retired. What’s Thursday?”

He laughed.

But the fact is, while I keep a calendar, I don’t think in terms of days. I think about what activities bring me joy. What we’ve grown used to over the course of our working lives starts to lose meaning. The day of the week, or the weekend for that matter, has little impact on my life, aside from the day I take my granddaughter to school.

This kind of reframing—letting go of what used to be important but no longer is—is something we need to stay aware of as we adjust our thinking to fit our new lives.
