As children, everything is new. We have wide lenses that take in all kinds of impressions. A simple walk in the woods can turn into an epic adventure—we notice everything, from the sounds of a nearby stream to the calls of birds, the shapes of clouds, the feel of earth in our hands, and the smell of flowers wafting through the air. We are open to ideas, information, and opportunities to learn and grow.
As we age, our lenses narrow. We focus on areas of interest that might lead to successful careers. We might get married, have children, and narrow the focus even further to meet the needs of the time.
In Chapter X, we have the opportunity to reopen our eyes, senses, and minds to discover new and wonderful experiences. We need to reassess whether a narrow focus is still relevant to our lives now. What possibilities exist through that wider lens? What joy lies just beyond your current ability to imagine?
Think wide, not narrow. Harvest the opportunities that come from exploring, engaging your curiosity, and removing the constraints that were once needed in your younger days.
