For too many of us, we see our lives as ordinary. It’s not like we’ve walked on the moon, discovered a new element, or won the Nobel Peace Prize. You know, things that stand out as extraordinary. At least in the sense of world-shaking or headline-making events. We typically see ourselves in a dimmer light than that of these luminaries.
But is that true? While we may have never made headlines, we do make a difference. The magic is to recognize your superpowers and acknowledge them. It doesn’t matter if your particular amazability is bringing a smile to someone’s face, making your grandchild laugh, or doing something that makes someone else’s life just a little better.
I have found that through stories, you can recognize moments, actions, or feats of greatness. While you might not see yourself as a writer, I encourage you to write your stories. They don’t have to be literary masterpieces, but they do need to be authentic and honest.
If you don’t know how, here’s a prompt:
I remember the time when…….and then tell a story. These stories don’t have to be more than a few sentences. But you might be surprised how your pen continues to move over the page as more of the story becomes real.
Try and remember what was noticeable: a smell, a taste, an expression. You’ll be amazed at what you remember and how memories come alive. Let your memories flow.
I would love to hear your experiences if you embark on this experience. I can almost guarantee you’ll be surprised by the stories you remember—and why they were impactful.
