For no apparent reason, I was thinking about my high school chemistry class. I remember watching the teacher talk about the reactions that occur when certain elements are exposed to water, air, or other elements.
Of course, the favorites were the ones with dramatic, loud, and surprising reactions. It was quite entertaining.
We learn many lessons throughout our lives. One lesson we all share is the “magic” of being thrust into an unfamiliar situation where we are confronted with feelings of discomfort.
Chemical reactions occur in our bodies: fear, sweat, widened eyes, and a pounding heart. We succeed, or we fail. But we live through the experience, and we invariably learn something about ourselves.
In Chapter X, we need to look for opportunities for heart-pumping, sweat-inducing experiences where we can step into our discomfort zone. If for no other reason, to FEEL the reaction, learn something new, and challenge our thinking and behavior.
Can you embrace this idea? Think about a time you stepped outside your comfort zone. How did it go? What did you learn about yourself from the experience?
