Many years ago, I had the privilege of hearing Dr. Layne Longfellow speak at a conference. The premise of his talk centered on the idea of success and the path to inner growth.
One of the best take-aways was his statement that we spend our lives (and I paraphrase), living up to or down from who we were in high school. He went on to say that the jocks who hit their zenith and the ‘nerds’ who were derided battle to maintain or establish primacy throughout their lives.
I have come across previous classmates—and some who reached the apex of their popularity started a vast decline upon graduation, while others who were not part of the in-crowd, have gone on to become successful professors, doctors and the like. Interesting, huh?
The reality is, we all have driving forces that push/pull or manhandle us in our behaviors, beliefs and habits. The question is: are those forces working for you or against your feeling peace, happiness, fulfillment and joy?
If not—if those old scripts and beliefs are sucking you into a quagmire of misery, it might be time to grow up.
