Laughter

By September 17, 2020 No Comments

The saying goes that “laughter is the best medicine”. While I don’t think it can cure COVID-19, there are some very well documented effects from a good healthy dose of laughter.

Here are a few:

Laughter relaxes the whole body and relieves tension.

Laughter boosts the immune system (not a bad feature with COVID out there).

Laughter triggers the release of endorphins—the feel good chemical.

Laughter protects the heart by increasing blood flow.

There are other benefits from a good laugh—it improves mood, relieves stress and strengthens resilience.

Find more ways to laugh.

There are some great clips on YouTube from comedians past and present that are sure to give your funny bone a workout. Someone sent me a clip of Buddy Hackett from a live show from Las Vegas and I could not stop laughing.

Burrowing into YouTube produced a wealth of similar type clips, so I was able to watch some amazing performances by Redd Foxx, George Carlin, Robert Klein, Richard Pryor, Moms Mabley and Joan Rivers. I just watched one after the other until my sides ached.

It was just what the doctor ordered.

Cheers,

Michael
