The blank page

By September 17, 2020 No Comments

As I was writing both of my books and the countless articles I’ve published over the years, there has been many a day where I stared at the blank page and wondered how I was going to fill it.

I was taking a writing class and the topic invariably comes up: “What do I do when I don’t know where to start? What do I do when I feel blocked?”

The answer: Just start writing. It doesn’t matter what comes out, just get words on the page; you’re a backspace away from erasing, modifying or fixing what you write.

Take away the idea that every word you write is perfect. It’s not. Get over it.

Chapter X is much the same way. You have a blank page. Your job is to fill it to YOUR satisfaction.

Like writing, you just have to start. You might try something that you don’t like. You might need to try a multitude of activities, projects or ideas before you find something that feels right.

Get over it!

Cheers,

Michael
