Things I Don’t Understand

By October 10, 2026 No Comments

There are so many things I don’t understand. Start with algebra, physics, computer programming…the list is endless. Truth be told, I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about them other than the occasional nod acknowledging my lack.

When it comes to people in retirement, I have another long list. For example, I don’t understand:

  1. People who say they don’t know what to do with their time.
  2. People whose routine never changes.
  3. Those who devote a preponderance of time in front of the TV.
  4. People who know that eating bad food, drinking alcohol, and not exercising are bad for their health and do nothing to change.
  5. Those who are quick to criticize and judge others but never see their own flaws.
  6. Those who have emotional or mental health issues but fail to seek help.

These examples are not criticisms but represent things I don’t understand. After all, we are gifted with the opportunity to learn, create, grow, give back to others, and devote our energy in a positive way.

It requires us to look inside and ask big questions. It means moving outside of our comfort zones. It entails the willingness to do something different, just because.

I’d love to hear about your journey. What have you learned? What are you noticing? How have you changed?
